AN EXPLORATORY BEER TOUR OF DOWNTOWN TORONTO

Explore the wonderful world of outstanding craft breweries in downtown Toronto. Discover the personal touch in making traditional, hand-crafted beers.

Visit three award winning breweries including Steam Whistle Brewery located in a building designated as one of Toronto’s “green buildings”. Learn about the railway history as you taste Steam Whistle’s single brand, Pilsner, made using traditional brewing techniques based on Europe’s renowned brewing standards.

Mill Street Brewery in Toronto’s historic distillery district is East Toronto’s first commercial brewery to open in more than 100 years. Taste a selection of their 13 beers. The Brew Pub, located in the original Gooderham & Worts tankhouse with its high ceilings, large skylights and wooden beams is one of our wonderful pub lunch stops.

The Granite Brewery is an award winning brewery making a variety of beers including Gin Lane Ale, Granite’s “barley wine”. Learn about this beer that originated in England more than 100 years ago when English brewers were trying to compete with the influx of wine from France. Taste some of their other wonderful beers.

Amsterdam Brewing Company was the first brew pub in Toronto established in 1986. They make a fine selection of ales and lagers with such great names as Tilted Kilt and Two Fisted Stout.

Tour the Old Credit Brewing Company, located in a beautiful, historic building and discover their process of producing the only Iced Beer in North America. Judge the quality for yourself as you taste award winning Old Credit Pale Pilsner, Amber Ale or Holiday Honey beers which are produced without additives or preservatives.

Founded in 1987, Great Lakes Brewery is Toronto’s oldest craft brewery. Great Lakes uses an historic fire-brewed copper kettle built in Germany in the early 1900’s. Taste a variety of their award winning beers – Pumpkin Ale, Winter Ale, Green Tea Ale, and many others – in various stages of fermentation through to completion.

Cameron’s Brewing Company started production in 1987 and has a 10,000 square foot facility. Taste a selection of award winning beers including its flagship brand, Cameron’s Cream Ale. This beer was a previous gold medal winner for Best Bottled Ale.

A MICRO BREWERY AFTERNOON TASTING EXPERIENCE LIKE NO OTHER

During an entertaining afternoon, discover what spurred the present day craft brewing renaissance in Ontario. Visit three of these unique breweries for a tour of one and sampling of fine handcrafted beers at each.

A stickler for quality, character and consistency, Black Oak Brewing Company brews its beers in small batches. Visit this micro brewery for a tour with the brewmaster and taste their wonderful Black Oak Pale Ale and Black Oak Nut Brown.

Better Bitters Brewing Company, brewers for two generations, produces a family of beers under the Nickel Brook Beers label. Better Bitters practices the craft of making beer as an art rather than merely a process. They produce regular and exotic beers including Special Edition Scotch Ale and Maple Porter which is infused with pure, dark maple syrup. Sample some of these fine beers.

Over the years Trafalgar Brewing Company has built a reputation as a craft brewery specializing in uniquely brewed small batches of beer. Learn about its three flavours of Mead, whose popularity peaked during the Middle Ages, and which Trafalgar Brewing introduced to the Ontario market in 1993. Taste some of its fine beers in its own Tied House, the only brewery to have one on site.

The goal of Grand River Brewing Company is to produce full flavoured beers with alcohol contents less than five percent for today’s beer drinkers concerned about over indulgence. They recently won a gold medal at the 2009 Ontario Brewing Awards for their Galt Knife Old Style Lager. Ever tasted a Bumbleberry Wheat Ale or Highballer Pumpkin Ale? This is your opportunity as you sample at Grand River Brewing.

When founder Philip Gosling opened Wellington Brewery in 1985, his concept was to produce English-style real ales for the Ontario market. These cask conditioned ales are naturally carbonated, served at cellar temperature, and drawn by hand pump.
